Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technician - Industrial (Co-op Optional)

Program Overview

Electricians not only light homes and power industry, but also harness energy, and even charge your car. Our ever-increasing reliance on electricity is driving the need for skilled electrical workers, and now more than ever there are opportunities in this exciting field. This program prepares you to enter an electrical apprenticeship in construction (309A) or industrial (442A) sectors, or to work in other electrical-related fields, in manufacturing, supply chain, fire alarm or renewable energy. If you enjoy creative problem solving, working with your hands and exploring innovative technology, this is the program for you.

This Ontario College diploma program offers completion in two-years, or in two-and-a-half years, when following the optional co-op stream. You will learn electrical theory, code regulations and blueprint reading throughout the program. Your extensive shop time will include a progression through residential, commercial and industrial wiring methods. In addition, you will develop an understanding of control strategies and technology in motors, programmable logic controllers (PLC) and automation shops.

Levels 1 and 2 of the trade schooling for an Ontario electrical apprenticeship are embedded in the program and this will provide you with a recognized advantage when starting your career.

Conestoga has one of the largest electrical training facilities in the province. Use of these dedicated electrical shops, combined with small class sizes, ensures you develop hands-on skills. A significant portion of your class time will be hands-on. You will develop troubleshooting and tool skills as you complete shop projects. The co-op option will further enhance your employability. The optional co-op stream includes three (two are back-to-back) co-op work terms.
