Bachelor of Arts in International Relations

Program Overview

As a student in the International Relations BA program at UMass Boston, you will acquire the skills you need to pursue a career in global affairs. Additionally, you will develop an understanding of the complexities of international politics, gain valuable research and analytical skills, and explore the role of diplomacy and conflict resolution in the international community.

In this program, you will:

  • Acquire a foundational knowledge of the principles of international relations, including the history and institutions involved in global politics
  • Develop critical thinking and analytical skills through the examination of complex political issues and the evaluation of competing theories and arguments
  • Gain practical research and writing skills through the completion of independent research projects and the analysis of primary and secondary sources

Represent the United States or your home country on an international scale as a diplomat. Implement programs to improve the social, economic, and political conditions in developing countries as an international development specialist. Or, work as a foreign correspondent, reporting for news outlets on international events and politics, and providing analysis to the public. Whatever your goals, UMass Boston is here to support you.
