Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology (Co-op- Optional)

Program Overview

Humber’s Mechanical Engineering Technology advanced diploma program provides you with hands-on experience and the foundational knowledge required to conceive, design, manufacture and operate engineering systems. Working on projects in state-of-the-art laboratories and design spaces, you will work on finding solutions for design and manufacturing challenges in engineering systems.

The curriculum covers the theory and the skills required for:

  • automation systems
  • computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) software-mastercam
  • engineering design using leading industrial softwares
  • manufacturing engineering systems
  • operation design and sustainability
  • prototyping and proof of concept applications
  • program computer numerical control (CNC) machine tools
  • project engineering and management
  • robotics
  • testing and maintenance of engineering systems

Our program builds upon the solid technical foundation of the Mechanical Engineering Technician diploma program. The manufacturing and basic design skills acquired in the first two years of the technician program are enhanced in the third year by focusing on detailed design and advanced manufacturing technologies. The program offers a co-op option to integrate work with learning and provides graduates with a chance to apply their skills in the industry. The third year features a capstone project in which students liaise with industry partners to produce a working prototype and a full design and manufacturing package for industry.

Work-Integrated Learning
This program offers an optional co-operative education placement opportunity. Optional co-operative education placements enable you to apply your skills and knowledge in a work environment and gain valuable and practical experience related to your program of study. You will improve personal and technical skills while expanding your professional network. Upon acceptance into the program, students have the opportunity to engage in two consecutive four-month optional co-operative education placements between Semesters 4 and 5. As spaces for the co-op option are limited, the application process for this opportunity takes place during Semester 3. Detailed information about the application procedure will be provided at that time. While the availability of optional co-operative education placements is not guaranteed, participants will benefit from a comprehensive range of services aimed at assisting them in securing a co-op placement.
