The MS in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) program at the University at Albany is designed to educate the next generation of professionals and innovators. The master’s program provides a high degree of specialization in one of three technical concentration areas: signal processing and communications, electronic circuits and systems, and control and computing systems.
UAlbany ECE students may choose to study full-time or part-time; and can select either a thesis option that includes a multiple-semester research experience or a non-thesis option with a one-semester project or project course. No matter the path taken, earning an MS in ECE is a stepping stone to career advancement or further study.

Electrical and Computer Engineering graduates typically enjoy some of the highest starting salaries across disciplines. The University at Albany Global Excellence Scholarships are awarded to incoming international students based on academic achievement as well as other qualifications, as determined by the admissions committee.
The maximum scholarship award is $18,500 per year for first-year (freshmen) applicants, for a potential total of $74,000 over four years. These scholarships are renewable, provided the student maintains a grade point average of 2.5 or higher and remains continuously enrolled as a full-time student at UAlbany paying out-of-state tuition.

Optional Practical Training or OPT is a period during which students, who have completed their degrees in the USA, are permitted to work for one year on a student visa by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). OPT allows students to work for up to 3 years and develop real-world skills to survive in the competitive jobs market.
It is temporary employment for a period of 12-months that is directly related to the major area of study of an F-1 student. Eligible students have the option to apply for OPT employment authorization before completing their academic studies and/or after completing their academic studies.
A student can participate in three types of Optional Practical Training (OPT):
